Purpose of Gurdwara
Sikhs believe that God is Satnam (Truth is His name), and to reach Him, any human needs Guru’s blessing. Gurdwara (Gateway to Guru) is a Sikh shrine where Guru’s grace can be evoked by true and selfless service. A religious abode where everyone is welcome and is equal irrespective of his/her color, creed, caste, class, country of origin, gender, age. The Sikh Centre of Greenville is committed to augmenting the Gurdwara’s role propagating Sikhism.
Guru Nanak, First Guru Love the saints of every faith: Put away thy pride. Remember the essence of religion Is meekness and sympathy, Not fine clothes, Not the Yogi’s garb and ashes, Not the blowing of the horns, Not the shaven head, Not long prayers, Not recitations and torturings, Not the ascetic way, But a life of goodness and purity, Amid the world’s temptations. Nanak’s teaching is understood to be practised in three ways:
Vand Chakko: Sharing with others, helping those with less who are in need
Kirat Karo: Earning/making a living honestly, without exploitation or fraud
Naam Japo: Chanting the Holy Name and thus remembering God at all times (ceaseless devotion to God)

“Without the support of the One Name, Consider all religious ceremonies superstitions.” “Karta (The Creator) and Karim (The beneficient) are the names of the same God. Razak (The provider) and Rahim (The merciful) are also the names given to Him. Let no man in his error wrangle over differences in names. Worship the One God who is the Lord of all. Know that his form is one and He is the One light diffused in all.” “The Khalsa is my own image. I shall always manifest myself in the Khalsa.
